Tomato Anticipation

Tomatoes are starting to ripen left and right in the garden. And luckily I planted them in more than one spot, because some beds are doing better than others.
Cherry tomatoes are the first to pop up and change colour. It’s always exciting to spot that very first one blushing, then turning orange and finally red — ready to be picked and tasted.

Chiapas are the first

These Chiapas Cherry Tomatoes are just beginning to blush. Surrounded by lush foliage and tucked in with French marigolds, they’re the earliest of all the varieties to show colour.
Every day they turn a little more orange, then red — tiny Chiapas tomatoes hanging in clusters of different shades.

Blondköpfchen is going crazy

This variety is blooming like no other. Wherever you look, there are dozens of small yellow flowers, brightening the whole bed. The blossoms reach down toward their marigold companions just below.

Amana Orange Heirloom

This heirloom beefsteak variety will eventually turn a deep, bright orange. For now, the fruit is still growing, slowly shifting from matte green to a glossy, vibrant green as it prepares for the next stage

The next few weeks will be all about keeping the plants supported, watered, and watched. With so many varieties coming along at once, I’m curious to see which one will ripen next. The garden feels full of small surprises.
